Pen-Pal Project for Middle School Children

2005-present

Conakry, Guinea

Tanara Greywolf innovated this project. Her younger brother's 2nd grade class at the Village School in Eugene, Oregon wrote to Mariama Cisse's 8th grade class at Wodia Berete's English School in Conakry, Guinea. This seemed to be a great match since the American students wrote in English to the Guinean students, who were studying English. Thus far, Eugene students have written once and the Conakry students have responded. To be continued...

Academic Scholarships

2007-present

Arlene Ory [link] innovated this project. She formed a strong heart connection with Abby Cisse Abby, a 16-year-old who wanted to study English since she interacts with foreigners during Lanyi Fan workshops. Arlene agreed to sponsor a year for Abby in an English immersion school. The cost to sponsor a Guinean child in school (grades K-12) is $250/year. This covers registration, school supplies, and tuition costs. It is difficult for Guinean parents to find enough money for their families to eat daily. Therefore, oftentimes their children's schooling is not a priority.

School Supply Distribution

Lanyi Fan accepts school supplies on an ongoing basis in the U.S. When Americans travel to Guinea, we deliver them to schools and/or students.
